Kent Snyder, affectionately known as "Whitey," was a man whose generous spirit and love for others were unmatched. Kent’s life was filled with laughter, purpose, and compassion. As the Culligan Nashville franchise owner for 16 years, Kent’s career was marked by success, but his true legacy lay in his giving heart.

He was a man who couldn’t ignore the needs of others. Kent spent his days handing out food to the hungry, socks to the cold, and Bibles to those needing comfort. His deep connection to the Nashville community was evident in every act of kindness. But behind his selflessness, Kent faced a struggle that he rarely spoke about—his battle with type 2 diabetes.

Kent’s diagnosis came with challenges that grew harder to manage over time. As a busy husband, father, and businessman, he often put others’ needs above his own. His diet suffered, his weight dropped, and his health became increasingly fragile. Despite the love and support of his wife, Debra, and their son, Kendall, Kent’s diabetes eventually led to complications that were too great to overcome.

On December 6, 2024, Kent passed away at 61. His family, devastated by the loss, began to reflect on how his struggles with diabetes might have been eased with better access to the right resources.

When Debra and Kendall learned about the Nashville General Hospital Foundation’s Nourish the Heart Campaign in partnership with NewsChannel 5 and the Food Pharmacy program, they saw a way to honor Kent’s memory while helping others. The Food Pharmacy provides patients with nutritious food to manage chronic illnesses, including diabetes, ensuring that no one must choose between eating well and affording their medications.

“If my dad had been connected to something like the Food Pharmacy, I believe his health journey could have been different. We’re supporting this program because we want other families to have the resources unavailable to him.”

In Kent’s honor, the Snyder family donated to the Food as Medicine Fund held at the Foundation, inviting others to join them in this mission. “My dad gave so much to others,” Kendall said. “This is our way of continuing that legacy and ensuring others have a chance at better health.”

Kent Snyder’s story reminds us of the power of generosity, the importance of managing our health, and the profound impact of community support. His legacy will continue inspiring and uplifting others, ensuring his spirit of kindness lives on for generations.
